She reads the letter. In the letter, Eddie explains that he is still a P.O.W., but is doing everything he can to plan an escape. Even though the war is supposed to be over, not everyone has accepted that ...and he is held up in a remote area with very angry people.  It was very difficult to find anyone sympathetic to his cause, but it seems God has sent someone who sneaks out mail for him.  Eddie tells her to remain hopeful ...and that he loves her more than she could ever know!
